I have never used dead rock before in a tank (I seeded it with 2 pieces of live rock). But I noticed my dead rock (which is now live) has become quite green. Is this a normal transition?

I am wondering if I should cut the light for a day or two, or if its just apart of the dead rock becoming live, cycle.

Any advice?

Same thing happened with me. I used dead rock, then supplied bacteria for a good while, seachem i think.

Rocks turned green where the light hit it, but its fading.

New tanks/rock goes through a brown phase, then a green phase.

A shorter light cycle would be beneficial right now, to keep the green in check.

Algaefix could help with this, but since it's normal, you might just want to let it be.

I ran into the same issue in my tank but what I think is the residual coloration left behind from an environment where coral was present.

Make sure to keep your calcium and magnesium levels in check. While it's going through the phase of green to purple, it will start to use up calcium and mag pretty quickly.
