Ok so I bought a cleaner shrimp about 3 days ago. Yesterday I found his molt and he was looking healthy afterwards, hanging upside down under a rock cleaning himself. I just looked at the tank and I see my nassarius snail on the underside of the shrimp's tail devouring him. The shrimp was/is still alive, somewhat. His front claws are still moving around and his antennae are moving. I picked up the snail to see if it would release the shrimp but nope.. still holding on tight. I will probably end up injuring/killing the shrimp anyways if i try to get the snail to release it.
It sucks because I JUST bought this guy 3 days ago. lol. SIGH.
Expensive meal for a freaking snail.

Any ideas what may have prompted this? I'm pretty sure nass snails wouldnt start chowing down on a perfectly healthy living animal. I acclimated the shrimp for a long time before introducing him into the tank.

PH is 8-8.2 and salinity is at 1.025. My temps stay anywhere beween 80-81.5 degrees.

He was fine up until now, unless there was something already killing him that I couldnt see. Everything else in my tank is doing fine.

Rawr.

Ok. The shrimp is, without a doubt, dead. The nassarius snail is going to townnnnnnnn. Not cool!

that's murphy at work... blame him...

you pay $5 for a pepermint shrimp and they live forever.. you pay $25 for a cleaner shrimp they live a year maybe..

you pay $50 for fire shrimp and they live a week...

Yeah I was saving up $$ and finally had enough to get a cleaner shrimp. Went and paid $25 and dead in 3 days.

$^%& you Murphy!
Seems I live by his law.
