I have had my derasa for two yrs. No problems at all. Lots of growth too. I saw the shell moving strange last night. Looking close under it and see that the shell is not connected with that tendon where it hinges. It was up on a flat rock. I put it down on the sand bed to help with the weight of the shell. It seemed to like that. As the hinged part seem to be moving apart and looked to be having a hard time to say the least. The clam is still looking fine if you did know the issue at hand.

 I am scared that this is a kiss of death.

Any experience with this?

The problem is that the shell is not connected like i thought it should be. I put it in the sand bed after seeing the clam struggle.

I think the clam should be ok.. my maxima clam that I've had for about 3 years now has retracted his foot and been moved several times.

Just make sure something isn't bothering it.
