Diatoms???

I've noticed a slow growth of I think diatoms over the past couple weeks; it's like an "air bubble" type growth and appears to resemble cyanobacteria; is there anything that eats it? also, how can I prevent it-being as I'd rather prevent its happening rather than treat it once it appears--
