Hello ARC. I joined the ARC recently and also just built a new frag tank so i guess my first post will be my build pics. It has been running for about 4 weeks and all is well.

Started with a 330 gallon plastic tote.

The 2" valves in these totes are not designed to have fitting installed inside the tank, but there is enough room to silicone in a 1 1/2" PVC coupling.

All over flow piping is 1 1/2" PVC. A little black paint, foam padding and edging and that's it.

Thanks for the kind words. My only problem is everytime I finish something I want one more something, this hobby is out of control!

It's roughly 90 gallons. My sump height determined the final height of the bottom of the tank and then I wanted the rim to be at 48" so I ended up with 90 gallons, which makes the tank about 14" deep.

That is really neat! Never thought about doing anything like that before... makes me think... I have spare totes we aren't using...

That is really neat. Awesome job with the creativity.

Wow. Thank you for sharing that in such detail. Great idea and execution. It's so cost-effective and straight up effective... It's one of those things that make you think..."why didn't I think of that??". I feel the need to buy you a beer if you make it up to an Arc meeting.

Also, welcome to ARC!

What a great idea, I'll definitely have to use that one day!

where do you have the return piping going back in at?

I haven't firmed up the final location of the return. Waiting to see how things go, but its currently in a corner.

As you all know frag tanks are not cheap. This tank is 40"x48" and i was looking at glass frag tanks half the size for $400 plus. All in for the tank and stand parts i'm in it just over $100.

The only con so far is not being able to see into the tank without using the viewer or shutting off the powerheads, it can be a pain at times. But at the same time there's no glass to clean.

I made my viewer out of a Folgers coffee can and a scrap of acrylic.
