DIY Filter Sock hanger

Anybody ever tried to build one of these? I'm thinking about doing a 4" for my refugium. I think it would work better than the chamber method I'm using now.

I think groupertherapy made one for a DIY sump. I like mine but need shorter socks. If you get socks that are too long, they will fill with air and float and overflow in a matter of minutes.

If you don't want to mess with diy, Keen Reef has a hang on 4" holder for sale by GEO. Nice unit. I use the same.

thanks Acro....that's right along the lines of what I'm looking for. My sump is acrylic so this would be a very simple add. I think I'll be going to Lowe's and get some 1/4" acrylic tonight. I've already got the weld-on 16. I presume that's a 1" bulkhead.

Believe it or not, I've seen filter sock threads on RC where folks say they use cotton socks like those in Jenn's pic.

Very easy to twist off and replace the socks and an emergency overflow. I change them once a week.

Well for years before there were real media bags that I could find, I used pantyhose for carbon... cut the foot out and use it as a bag.

IMO the best use ever invented for pantyhose :lol:
