there is an even cheaper DIY,
attach a pump to the bottom of those turning fans and keep the fan secured to the top of the canopy. also will cool the tank.

Well it might easier to take one a part and use the motor that way you could get 180 degrees. Then again depends on how much a fan costs.

It does not seem that difficult to make. Does any company make something similar these?

That's a cool project. BUT, make one that doesn't rotate a ph, but works more like a sea swirl and I'll be impressed.

I want one to rotate a tunze in the center of my new tank. I will have some vortechs on the ends.

Rotating flow-through devices all have longevity issues as their seals will inevitably go bad. A DIY of that would be a disaster...

I like the idea of this type of flow device functionally... although I don't care for them aesthetically. In the alternative you could get another vortech in there in the middle of the tank and even hide it behind the rockwork. You wouldn't see any wires or a powerhead and you'd get plenty of flow.

I have some motors if you want them. I got some 3 rpm a/c motors for some DIY dosing pumps, but they change direction each time you start them up so I cant use them.

Im going to make a few pump movers for myself, but I have 7 motors and only need 3 of them.

EDIT :

and if your just using it for a pump mover there are no seals to worry about, making it much simpler. I have a maxijet mod on my sea swirl now and it rocks!
