I came upon enough 1/2 glass to build about any size tank or as many tanks as I could want. My question is what would be a good size to start with?

Not taller than 24" and as large as the area you have available can support...

But once you get beyond a certain lenght wouldn't you need intermediate bracing if the glass is only 1/2". Most larger tanks are 3/4" glass are they not?

Absolutely!
But he asked how big he should go - not how to build it... Haha

See how you are. Are you sure you are not a politician? "I am going to lower taxes". But what he didn't say is "But only $1 on one tax. I am also going to raise another tax buy $50"

what size do you want? 24" is the highest to keep down deflection.

hope it's annealed and not tempered. i wanted a 150g 48x30x24H with 4 holes drilled in the back left corner but had to go w/ a standard 120 and drilled the left sidewall.

options are endless
