Just curious. as I remember we were the last 4 or 5 yrs, but didn't know if the policy had changed.

ARC Sponsors are given two Memberships. The Sponsor can give these to whoever they want, but I do not think being a LFS emloyee gets you a free Membership.

No, they have to pay for it just like the rest of us :)

interesting... I think I may have to pass on it then. Thanks for the info though!

... I just signed up as a volunteer at the aquarium. We get a volunteer annual pass, but we also paid $60 at the info session. So.... kinda? Not really?

Apparently working 100 hours or more in a year waives the next annual $60 fee.

I can't track it down, but I believe a petition was amde that GAI employees get free memberships here.
Wish I'd knew what to search for to find it again.

It was policy in 2006. I'm not sure if that policy expired, although IIRC, it was open-ended. Besides, there are very few GAI employees who would also be ARC members. I'd still support it.

If you think about it, $30 is not much for what you receive from ARC Membership, but to each his won. I made up for the $30 yearly dues the first month I got back into Reefing just from the 10% discount you get from our ARC Sponsors.

Do ARC members get free entry into the Aquarium?

Just curious..

This is my ARC Member opinion, not a Moderator opinion:

Seems there should be some consideration given for consideration given. What is the incentive to give free memberships if there is nothing received? Free admission for ARC members into the Ga. Aquarium might be a bit excessive to expect, but maybe a discount or a free behind the scenes tour night for ARC members or anything to show it is a two way street.

I was teasing...

I like the "you charge me full price and I'll charge you full price setup"..

no worries guys,

Just trying to see if we still got some free memberships as we did since opening. I think it would benefit the ARC to have some aquarium guys/gals in the mix though. I used to be a sponsor back in teh LFS days, but since about 2006 I've been working, living, and breathing this stuff and my hobby ways have kind of fallen to the way side. I mainly just like helping folks and providing a different view on scenarios for troubleshooting, design etc...

Perhaps I could arrange for a presentation or something the like in exchange for some ARC memberships?

The discount is a good point. I'll see what I can do if anything. Don't get your hopes up. :D

GAI is aquatic. GAI does a lot more good for the world than ARC does. In good faith, maybe ARC could "donate" 50 comp membership to GAI?

my only thought is that ARC membership is $30 a YEAR, not much. If it allows us to do things as cookouts I think everyone should pay, i'd be willing to do a little more.

well maybe the olive branch can come from us.............
