Do fish shed fins?

Okay, I am really confused here. I have seen particles such as that pictured in random tanks at my LFS (rarely) and today, I found this floating about my tank. All of my fish look fine (no missing fins, etc). It, to me, looks like a large piece of fin (none of my fish are even this large except my gobby). I know it is nothing I feed them and there is nothing I can find in my tank that even slightly resembles what this could have come from? I'm confused! Any ideas?

Looks green and it looks like a piece of plastic or something. Are you sure it's from a living thing?

Sorry about the pic quality. I took it with my phone and it looked okay on there...didn't realize how blury it actually is until after you mentioned it. I already threw it away. I wasn't worried, just curious; it was just weird! lol Thanks guys.
