Need to know when and how much. I have a 75gal DT with about 26gal in the sump. The tank is 4 weeks old and cycled. Would 5gal work to start with? Just put 14 crabs and 4 snails and 4 clowns in about 3 days ago. The numbers are good SG 1..024+/-, 0 ammonia, 8.2ish PH, 0 NI, 18-20NA. about a week ago my sand started in areas started to turn light brown. But now it’s brown and starting to creep across the sand from the left side to the right and on the LR on the left side just under the power head. Mostly on the left on the side with the power head. I know I need to add another something for more flow this weekend when I get paid. Could this be as simple as needing more flow in the tank?

If you say it's been cycled, sounds like just a run of the mill new tank algea diatom bloom.

I would start my regular weekly water changes now, between 7.5 to 15 gallons.

yeah sounds like diatoms to me too...did u start out with live rock and live sand?

In my opinion that is the #1 thing in this hobby. Do regular, consistent water changes no matter what. I do 15% weekly, but people on ARC could argue all day on the % or how often. Figure out what you want to do (how often and how much) and set a schedule and keep to it.

the funny thing is that I turned off the 2 T-8 6500K bulbs and it LQQKs like the brown has slowed down. so, was the lights making it grow faster? I also angled the PH different but i will be getting another PH this weekend. This is the part of something new I hate... urgh...
