MorganAtlanta;1040103 wrote: Quarantine is not easy. It means operating a whole separate system, which is often not automated the way your "real" system is, and it needs to be large enough and stable enough to hold fish for a month or more. It is also not a guarantee against adding a fish that carries a disease unless you treat prophylacticly-- assume any fish you get that is prone to a particular disease indeed has it. A fish can carry a low level infection that you don't notice, but that flares up later in your display. So you need to be prepared to recognize and treat conditions with hyposalinity, copper or other meds, monitoring pH, tank transfer, etc. There is no way someone new to the hobby can or will do this, so they are almost guaranteed to get ich or something else by the time they've finished stocking a decent sized tank. I would gladly pay $50 or more a fish for someone else to do a proper quarantine on it, which is what SEA does, and no one else in Atlanta does that I've seen. Maybe they do, but I haven't seen it. Jeremy will take you into the back room at SEA and show you the QT process they use. If other stores do this, please let us know.

QT fish for ME is extremely easy....I set it up 2-4 weeks before acquiring a fish, and I would love to share with anyone how to do it.
While I agree that one place does QT's it's fish, it doesn't condition the fish to your foods & your tank and it was a Fish that I bought from him that refused to eat after I entered it directly in display is when I decided to QT all fish, no matter what...it was a very pricey fish and no warranty...
never had an issue after that...and I understand your position as I had the same at one time.

Treating and curing a fish with ailments can be a chore, especially if you don't know what you're looking for. COnditioning it to eat can be equally difficult, especially when the fish is sick. It's much easier to get a healthy fish eating, ime.
Also, if I were trapped in a box and subjected to seeing your face, I too would refuse to eat
