Do Zoas/Palys and SPS's get along in close quarters

My tank has been up and running about 6 months or so now and it's almost entirely SPS and zoas. The zoas are really spreading now and soon will be very close to some SPS's. Will I run into issues once the zoas get to the SPS's, or will they just form a blanket around the bases of the SPS? THanks.

Acropora sp. and Montipora sp. vs Zoanthus - There are three different basic varieties of zoanthus that we collect, the regular zoanthids, palythoa, and protopalythoa. I'm not going to go into depth on their differences. The key here is that montis and acros both will dominate zoanthids and palys when they come into contact. I've seen both of them basically grow over the zoa and palys with little fanfare. Protopalythoa though are a completely different story. These guys will destroy any stony coral they come into contact with unlike their pansy cousins.

Great link. Thanks for the heads-up. I don't get much time online and miss some great info:sad:

FTR, I have avoided putting any protopalys in my tank as per many peoples recommendations.

so in essense, the zoas will pretty much grow 'around' the SPS's?? (as long as they're not the protos)?

That's what is sounds like. I guess I'll be really cautious with my encrusting montis though. I don't have any zoas near those. My Tyree Sunset Monti is my centerpiece (thanks be to Jin...LOL)

Yeah, it can go either way, depending on the specific corals interacting. Lee had an acro that grew around some polyps, and they still opened throught their little holes. Maybe not common, but possible.

That was pretty cool how that zoa grew out of the SPS colony...

My zoas grow around my sps, no issues.

I have a huge toadstool which now has zoas growing ON it!
