Does kalkwasser deteriorate silicone?

I just realized that my ato reservoir, a standard 10 gallon tank, was leaking. I've been dosing kalk in it and it's been setup for at least 2yrs.

Does anyone know if kalkwasser eventually deteriorates silicone? Or is it possibility just a bad tank?

Does it seem to come off easily in that tank?

I already threw out the tank so I don't know. The inside was pretty thickly covered with kalk and I was too annoyed to mess with it any further. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. I'm back to using a 5gal jug for kalkwasser now to be safe.

You might want to try using an acrylic tank next time.

That's a new one to me. Might have just been a bad tank.

Yeah, it was weird... it was just a standard petco dollar a gallon tank I got specifically for ato.
