Another question for everyone. How many reefers out there have dogs and cats?

Im looking at putting a glass lid over my 60 cube for 2 reasons, 1 the norm and stopping jumps but 2 to keep dog hair out of my tank as I cannot think that would be to good for the tank.

Problem is I have heard screens are so much better then glass lids so what do all you dog, cat and bird owners do out there?

A canopy and screen is what I'm using. Funny, I've never really thought about the dog hair but I guess that means its never become an issue.

I have glass over my tank and have never had an issue, although mine is there to stop my body from jumping out.

We have 2 dogs and three cats. Hair in the tank has never been an issue. Hair should be inert and picked up by the filter sock

Dog Owner here ( the family menagerie includes a cat, chinchilla and 2 birds - we've been down sizing). Hair has not been a problem, meaning it will get into the system and I mostly find it in the skimmer collection cup and filter socks. I think that if the system were that delicate, most Pet Store would not be able to keep them. The cat likes to sleep on a warm spot usually on the lights. I have a canopy mostly because the dogs are danes and they tried to drink out of the tank once!
They lost the "Great" part after one of them ate a rabbit and yakked it up on the floor right outside my door. I heard it and came running, hit the mess and started sliding like Wily Coyote in a Road Runner cartoon. My foot smashed into the wall and I ended up breaking two toes. I love them, but they will just danes until the earn the Great part back.

That made me laugh... Not the fact that you actually broke your toes, but just the picture of that happening in my head.

We have 6 cats and one dog inside, a lot of hair! I have the mesh screens over most of the tanks(to keep the fish in). I do wash the salt and a little bit of hair off of the screens every 2-3 months, my filter socks take care of the rest. We can't see it in the tanks, but I do need to vacuum behind them too. The animals are more work but they are worth it! Holley :D

1 70# hound, 5 cats, 3 daughters so lots of hair with only a mesh screen on top of my tank. At least every water change there is a pet hair floating around in the tank. Never had an issue with pet hair in my 18 years of keeping tanks.

4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 kids, a mother inlaw, 6 tanks, and the wife... To many pets. LOL but no issues, with hair that is..

I used to have a 90-lb husky-dingo/akita mix - very hirsute, never had issues. Also had 2 cats.

Big dog and one cat passed (old age - both), now have 2 short-haired dogs and one cat - again, never had issues.

We maintained tanks in veterinary offices ... hair city. Keeping the inside cabinet free of hair was the biggest issue, but it never caused problems.

No glass tops - eggcrate and/or canopy.

5 dogs here, 2 Great Danes, 2 Boxes, 1 Schnauzer. Their hair I find everywhere... even in the tank at times and never had an issue...
