I am looking for chunky versions of the stuff. Other than Zeomag is there another source of this stuff in say 10-15mm chunks?

Cameron I used to find it all the time in freshwater sections of pet stores. I used it for several years in my calcium reactor to supplement Mg about 4 years ago I could only find it at one organic garden store in DFW.

Having said that I haven't found any since I moved here to GA almost 3 years ago!

I may have to order a batch of that ZeoMag and sift out the small stuff. The Jetstreams don't seem to like small media and I would really like a one shot fix to my dosing which dolomite would give.

I found a place where you could order it..I can't remember the name of the place now to save me but I found it through Google..

Cameron, I was about to order some zeomag, too. In my jetstream, I have the dolomite stashed in a mesh bag inside the chamber to avoid the clogging issue. I didn't know you could get it in larger chunks.

and why they are important... The JetStream is a calcium reactor. Normally a calcium reactor adds effleunt into the tank that is both a calcium and alkalinity balanced so you don't need two part. Dolomite is limestone with a heavy amount of magnesium mixed in. If you mix in 10-20% Dolomite along with the reactor media (dead coral) it dissolves the reactor media and dolomite which in turn makes dosing mag seperately unnecessary generally speaking.

Mine turned out to be cheap (at least for a CA Reactor). I got the Jetstream from Premium Aquatics when they were running the half price sale on them ($300). The unit got damaged in shipping so they refunded me half the money and I had to glue some PVC back together so the reactor with Eheim pump cost me $150. I am using my AC3 to check pH inside the reactor and control the CO2 solinoid. I picked up a top of the line solinoid/needle valve/regulator, from aquariumplants.com along with a filled 5lb CO2 bottle for $200 on special. Add on media at $15 and I think I got one heck of a deal.

If you were to recreate the setup new today, it would be around $550 for the reactor, $160 for the regulator, controller for about $100 and a new filled CO2 bottle $50-$80. You can pick one up a used on a good deal with everything with inexpensive components (milwaukee namely) for around $350 if you shop long enough.

It sounds expensive but in the long run it is cheaper to run a reactor and a lot less work.
