Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of delaying changing your RO/DI filters, and finding that your reef inhabitants don't really like tap water!? I'm still losing SPS corals due to bleaching over time and have a severe diatom problem. However, my phosphates (inorganic) are low, alkalinity 5 meq/L, pH 8.4. I've used carbon and phosphate sponge with a partial water change, to no avail. More water changes pending. Share your experience if you've had this happen. It's a first (and last) for me.

Yes a TDS meter is pretty much a must for testing your RO/DI unit's water. You can them for as low as $20 I believe. If you check for other threads here, you should be able to find a couple of links.

But yes, high TDS can mess things up. I never had issues with my coral but I was dealing with quite the cynobacteria problem. My TDS was 24 ppm out of the unit. Way too high. Swapped out the filters and it dropped back down to 0! Just be sure to test the water in a very clean container.
