so my wfie went out to eat with her girlfriends last night one of which is a marine biologist that is doing some type of study at the atlanta aquarium

my wife told her about my tank etc etc and that I have to drive to Rits every other week for RODI water

the marine biologist woman couldnt understand why anyone would make/buy RO water...she said that she always uses tap water and lets it sit for 48 hours to "degasify or something"( those were wifes words) ..my wife couldnt remember exactly what she said...would this make any sense...seems like the RODI removes much more than unwanted "gas or something"

dont listen... bad advice.

Our tap water contains a number of things including phosphates... which contribute to algae. RO takes that out.

For whatever reason probably cost the Atlanta Aquarium and most Aquariums do not use R/O water.

Like Crewdawg said, in our small water volume, using tap water even if you let it sit for a few days will spell trouble.

I say whatever floats her boat in fresh or salt a lot of schooling to go down that road with her .I have an RODI unit and love it ,but some of my friends make their water right from tap using prime etc to add to tap water. I hear they run into algae problems not sure spelling is right. I have hasd the same thought at one time before rodi unit

I don't use RODI water. Straight Lawrenceville tap, and I have no issues. Not saying everyone would have that same experience, but RODI is not a necessity for a successful reef.

Not to mention that you never know what's coming out of your tap. There was an incident in Thomaston a few years back where something ended up in the water. (I say something because the city never copped to what it was). My grandma lost her gerbils and parakeets because of it.
