Hello All!! So after listening to your guys opinions I decided to drill my tank and installed a 700gph Glass-holes.com internal overflow box. BTW there stuff rocks! I'm really impressed with the quality and build of the box. But my question is I have a mag 5 return pump and I believe that the overflow is pushing out to much water so I was wondering if it would be ok to put a ball valve on the drain line to slow the flow. My concern is that its only a 46 gallon tank and I really don't want to put a bigger return pump in because the one thats in there now really churns up the water pretty good and I don't believe I will have to put any power heads in the tank for flow. Just curious give me opinions! Cheers.

Overflow's don't "push water", they drain it. You could put a valve on the Mag pump to throttle it back some, but depending on the hose size you used for the pump, it might already be pushing less than 500gph (and that's with a 0' head height).

You don't use return pumps for "flow", you'll want to use in-tank circulation pumps for that. I will tell you outright, that if the Mag 5 is your only flow, it's not enough.

Don't ever try to control a return by dialing back the drain line. That's a flood waiting to happen.

Basically the amount of water you feed into the tank from the sump dictates how much overflow/drain you will have. If you feel you have too much you need to throttle the pump or replace it with something smaller.
