Drilling tanks???

I drilled my own tank. It was so easy. If you look online you could find drill bit, bulkheads and all you plumbing for less than $30 shipped.

Ebay. Just make sure you buy the correct size. Example a one inch bulkhead requires a bit larger then one inch.

Our LFS guy said he'd do them $20 per hole.. which is why he didn't drill them for us!

My bf drilled our tank & it took 5 min total for 2 holes. We bought off of ebay a 1 3/4" diamond coated drill bit hole saw for $10. Also, (2) 1" threaded bulkheads w/ gaskets and nuts for $9.

My bf marked where he wanted the holes, placed tape over the sections and drew the circle in the middle. I held the waterhose (constantly) over the parts he was drilling, he started at 45 degrees and then held it straight down then in just a couple minutes the holes were drilled. VERY EASY!

Go to http://www.gl*******s.com">www.gl*******s.com</a> and watch the video.

Edit: Not sure what happened there but that should be glass holes with no space. I guess it looked to close to a bad word for a bunch of people you don't like. LOL

If you live in an apartment and dont have a hose, I've used a clean (never used for chemicals) garden sprayer (about $12 walmart). It worked pretty well for me once I removed the spray nozzle

I've heard that it's mostly the bottoms of tanks that are tempered, so drilling the sides should be fine. But, look for a sticker or etching somewhere on the bottom glass, if there's a manufacturer name you could look them up and maybe call them. On our first tank we just...went with it and luckily it wasn't tempered. On our 55 it had a tempered sticker on the bottom glass so we drilled 3 in the back :)

By all means I'm not saying drill away though!
