I am considering how to run top off water to my sump and am wondering if a gravity feed will work.

RO/DI storage tank is in the garage, with a 50' run to the tank. water feed is 30" from the floor. Water will need to travel 8' up... 50' over, then 9' down. Feed to the sump is 12" from the floor.

Will the overall 18" drop (30"-12") compensate for the up and over resistance?

It could, depending on the flow rate. That's a pretty long distance to travel to only drop 18". I would think that in order to keep the siphon, you would have to have more flow than would be required for top off, and you'd probably only be using 1/4" or 1/2" tubing, right?

Yeah... probably going to run 1/2" pvc. Curent top off requirement is about one gallon per day. I'll double that to two gallons for the 180 build... so I really only need a trickle.

If this doesn't work, I'll connect a pump in the storage tank controlled by ATO in the cabinet. That means I need to determine the type of pump I need... and run wiring from the pump to the ATO.

.

could you use RODI tubing instead of the PVC and an aqualifter pump? with that much of a run it may provide that drip you need..the pump could stay near the sump I would think

An aqualifter won't handle that kind of head pressure. Probably need a Mag pump and use a valve to turn it down.

I have several options... I'll probably start with the gravity feed and (groan) keep spending money until it works.

your probably right, i missed the "8 ft up" part of the post

That's probably the best way to go. Give it a try, if it works, let me know.
