Ebb and Flow discussion.

So I have three pumps, powerheads, w/e you wanna call it. I have well over 10x turnover (according to rating) but I am still getting a lot of detrius buildup under/around rocks and also on top of rocks at the base of coral. I know I can siphon this off but I have heard/read about wave boxes that really suspend a lot of this for skimming and better breakdown. I am wondering about the oscillating attachments for powerheads, or "affordable" controllable devices. Aside from manually blowing/siphoning this detrius off/up what my options are. I know the MP__'s would help, but cost $XXX.xx, I am curious about DIY and other alternatives. :argue:

Use a turkey baster every other day or so to blow stuff off

what power heads are you using? the Maxijets?

if so the above comment is right.. those attachments do great.

As far as waveboxes go.... I wouldn't go that route. I've had the tunze wavebox 2x.. and can't bring myself to like it. For the price it just doesn't perform IMO. Also boxes are big.

If you ARE using MJ's you may consider getting a multi timer to keep the flow mixed up some.

I have three different kind of pumps, A two maxi 1200's, and a pump I origionally bought to be a return but went cheap and when upgraded tanks, I decided to just put it in DT and hide with rocks. It is the strongest one I have but I have adjustable neck part that came off of my return on the 60. LFS suggested just moving them once every week or two and I should not have to siphon.......
