I fairly recently added a Golden dwarf moray eel, problem two different full grown fairy wrasse looked to have been attacked during the night.

Is this possible/likly it was the eel?

I feed him daily but he acts like he is always hungry. I plan to start feeding him more and or lager pieces of silver sides. He is a good 12" long.

The thing is it has only been full grown 4"plus wrasses. I have juvenile females he could eat whole if he wanted to. Is this some sort dispute or is he trying to eat them.

I really think it is him because there seems to be damage on both sides of the wrasse like a mouth did it. At first I thought they were scraping themselves up when escaping their sleeping spots(being startled by him) but the one this morning looks like he was bitten.

The only other thing I can come up with would be an emerald crab. I plan to watch the tank at night as best I can for a few days and see if anything else shows it head. I have never had this problem till recently but I added emerald crabs and the Eell around the same time.

Any help from those with experience with dwarf golden mary Eel would be great.

Thanks Joe

Eels are eels.

It is surely the eel. I would feed him until he will eat no more. My little male golden can eat 1, maybe one and a half silverside before satiating.

Thanks

I was feeding him two 1.5" to 2" pice of silver sides with the head removed. He is larger then some I have seen he around 12". I was slowly trying to reduce feeding to every other day.

Everyday he starts roaming around the tank and is restless till I feed him. It's fun to watch but can't have him attacking my fish at night.

I would expect him to go after the smaller ones but he has been going after the big boys.

I would take him out to insure no more damage to the wrasse. You dont want to wait a couple of days to figure out which one it is. It only takes a second for the eel to eat the wrasse. Just my .02

Well, I HIGHLY doubt he would be able to eat one, but he will try. I would try feeding more. That should help a lot.

I think it be almost impossible to get the eel out of his tank, they are very hard to catch.
I had my gdm try to eat my firefish (I think) I was feeding my gdm twice a week and started feeding it every other day and a more varied diet. After that I never had another problem.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. He gets one more chance with me feeding him till he will not eat anymore. If it happens again I will set a trap and put it in my other tank.

Oops try this. I have never seen one before.

if it does not work try Diver din Malachite Secretive Wrasse
(Pteragogus aurigarius)

I seriously doubt the eel has attacked your wrasses....I have had several of these eels now and only feed mine every 3-4 days....sometimes I go a week depending on my schedule.. There mouths just do not open as wide as many of the other eel species..

If you dont want him let me know, I could use another one :)

I could sell you my Electric Blue Ribbon Eel. He's eating like a pig now :-) I've trained him to only eat from my tongs. I can show you him eating. He's safer than other eels.
