For those who have them, how do you plumb them? Is it safe to assume that I could plumb my return line into it for the low flow rating (for protozoans) instead of tee-ing off the return pump?

I don't have an Emperor but I do have the Aqua 57w. I have it plumbed with a T out of my overflow drain into the UV Sterilizer and then a valve (to control the flow thru the UV) between the unit and back into my sump/refugium.

Your uv is upside down. The inlet and outlet should face up so the unit is 100% flooded.

That is why I put a valve on the out side to restrict the flow. Less out than coming in keeps it 100% full and keeps the flow down to maximize contact time with the UV light.

Be careful not to create a pressurized chamber restricting flow on the outlet of the UV. I don't think they're designed for that.
