I am almost out of my current bucket of Seachem Reef Salt, and I am thinking of trying out the Seachem Salinity. Does anyone have any experience with this Salt? Have you noticed any improvements in water parameters? Any feedback would be appreciated :yay:

Used it fir about a week.
Pros: for the price it's great ( 65-79 per bucket 225gallon mix). Could be just me but my coral seem to be happier, and more vibrant in color, could br just me tho. It suppose to have enough mineral and trace elements that you should have to dose between water changes.
Cons: salt mixing sucks donkey balls. I don't know if it's just me or is other people having the same issue. It seems the salt takes an usually long time to completely dissolve. Making a batch of 25 water took forever. Salt seems to give off a little heat a well.

Overall impression: great salt, just be patient when mixing.

Mixed as fast as usual for me but my problem is adding too much. For years (and years and years), I've added a certain amount, now with Salinity, I checked my tank and it was 1.030 with the refractometer. Go figure that another tank was 1.015 (with two clowns in it, Yikes). I've never had a problem guaging how much salt I've needed before for X amount of water, but having trouble zeroing in with Salinity.

I'm certain it's user error</em> as when cory and I split a bucket, he got pocession of the bucket and therefore I have no mixing instructions.

I done 4 30 gallon water changes now using this salt.

1. It does seem harder to dissolve than most other salts I have used.

2. It seems to create some slime on the water surface (best way I can describe it) no big deal I skim it off the surface.

3. It takes longer to settle than most other salt (stays cloudy longer) I just have learned to let is rest a little longer before using.

4. Having said all the above which may seem negative. This is the best salt I have ever used!

I have cut both calcium and magnesium dosing in half since using this stuff. All the corals just appear happier.

Let's just say I used it and I plan to keep on using it.
IMO it's really GOOD STUFF.

I really like how it has the exact parameters for that specific bucket on the label.

Glad to hear the positive results with it :) Added buffers and trace elements probably is why it takes a bit longer to dissolve.

been using it for about three weeks same as everyone else about it except. i heat my water first and i use a 1600 gph pump to mix. all in all i would not use anything else. awsome product

How can that be?

Could be the alk/ca/mg. I noticed my CA dosing container gets warm when I mix up a batch.

Didn't think of a possible chemical reaction occuring.

Yep, remember the cal. part of most DIY two parts is made up from (or used to be until they changed the formula) Prestone Driveway Heat ice melter.

I appreciate the feedback! It sounds like the pros really out weigh the cons, and Salinity is worth trying out. I am going to finish off this tub of Seachem Reef salt and invest in some Salinity!

+1 - I also noticed it left a white film all over everything in my 44 gal rubbermaid - must be the calcium? I let mine sit for about 4 days pre-mixed and thats when everything started turning white.

either way, love it and dont plan on not using it.

Sounds like I may try this salt. I have been using Corallife and DD @ 50/50 with no major dosing at all. When I do dose its Seachem products. Im interested. May wait on more reviews.
As far as mixing I always make allot at a time so it sits for a day or so with a 900gph pump on it. No concern there. Just don't want to have to start chasing water parameters.
