I building a SW mix station. It will mix about 15gal. and then pump all of it to the sump. rise will be about 2.5' and about 10' horizontal or less over to the sump. At the moment I have two options a Mag 7 or a BlueLine 20. This will not be used all of the time. What would you use?

Mags awesome pumps and last, but they tend to leak externally IME. Unfortunately I can't offer advice on the other one.

Blue line for sure.

FWIW, I am in the process of building one, and I have an external iwaki I am going to use. I did a lot of research on setups on reef central, and 90% went with external pumps.

In the winter months, the use of a mag pump helps keep the water warm, but in the summer months it adds too much heat. Will this be inside or in the garage? I say blueline as well. Mags are heat monsters.

So having the pump running to mix the water and keep it circulating doesn't count?

I have a Mag 9.5 to use in the sump for a return pump not opened yet. But the Mag7 I have would be used external or I could get a Blue line. I have not been through a summer yet with the tank. Should I change my mind on the Mag 9.5 and use an external on the DT as well. I have a hole saw and extra BH.

And I missed that you're running both externally , which greatly reduces the heat transfer of the mag. I'd still go with the blue line.

Edit: And I'd think twice about running the 9.5 internally. They really get hot for what I've experienced with them. If you're going internal in the sump, get an eheim 1262.

im running a little giant 3 as it was just a leftover and seem to fit...
