So my husband and I bought a feather duster yesterday. We put him in our tank and he seemed very happy. Well today he keeps retracting completely then opening again after a few moments. There isnt anything around it to bother it as our first fish are still in qt. Any thoughts?

That is just part of its natural tendency. Sometimes just a fish swimming close by could be enough water motion to have it retract.

BTW, have you investigated what kind of feather duster it is and what it eats? Mine eats phytoplankton.

BTW, congratulations on your first post and thread on ARC!!! Welcome!

We have no idea what kind it is. We picked it up at the lfs. I can post a picture and see if I can get an ID. It seems happy enough where we put it, it's anchored down to its rock.

Make sure it is not being pinched between any of the rocks. It will attach to the rocks itself after a wedk or so. But the open and closed behavior is normal. hou really have to worry if it ejects its feathers.

Does it have a hard tube or soft?

It is a Hawaiian Feather Duster if it is a soft tube and CoCo Worm if hard.

You would be able to tell the difference for sure. It is a Hawaiian Feather Duster then
