How much should I be feeding my clown pair? The guy at the store said 1/2 cube (frozen brine) a day or 1 cube every other day. It seems like a lot for just the two. And do you turn of your powerhead? It looked like a snow globe last night.

Thanks. I have some pellets and frozen mysis cubes. Not a huge fan of the frozen cubes because I too only have 3 small clowns and a chromis

Every day?
I feed my clowns twice a day but a very small amount, only what they consume right away and no more. That is much easier with the pellets than the frozen mysis. I do pause my power head when feeding the mysis because you’re right, it does look like a snow globe! The chromis likes to chase them around and eat them though

You’re on the right track with Frozen food. But I believe getting into the merits of frozen vs pellets and flakes is another topic.

As for the quantity; you’re right in your gut feeling. 1/2 cube every day is a bit on the high side for a pair of clowns.

For smaller tanks, I prefer to have a little defrost bowl, shot glass, or Tupperware. Here, you can defrost a cube, and store it in the fridge for a couple days if needed. I think 1 cube should last 4 feedings for just a pair of clowns (potentially 6-8 feedings if they are very young).

And yes, everyday.

Don’t feed all at once. Use a turkey Baster or something similar to give them little bursts of a few micro-shrimps at a time. Let them eat all (or all but 1) before you give them another squirt. If they aren’t eating everything, then stop feeding. They’ve probably had their fill. (This is just a rough guideline. Case by case is better)

Also, brine is a great “treat” food. Fish love it, but it’s not very healthy. LRS is great quality, albeit a little pricey. Hikari Frozen mysis is probably the middle ground, but I would also recommend some fish vitamins like Selco to make it more nutritious.
