Setting up a 20g Q/T today which will may be up for several weeks and will contain 3 fish.

I have http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/product/productInfo.web?=&infoParam.itemKey=215231&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=aqua_clear_50_filter">this Aqua Clear</a> left over from my 33g when it was a F/W tank. How would I use this on a Q/T as far as filter media goes? Would I use the stuff that you buy specifically for it? [IMG]http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/214754/product.web">Carbon</a>... [IMG]http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/214982/product.web">BioMax</a>... [IMG]http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/237428/product.web">Amonia Remover</a>... etc?

Also, I've heard mention of keeping a sponge in the sump/fuge of your main display so you can add it to a Q/T whenever you need it. What kind of sponge, specifically? Where do you add it to the Q/T tank? In the filter assembly, or in the tank itself? There is a [IMG]http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/215184/product.web">foam insert</a> that came with this filter... is that what I would use?

I also have a heater, PVC and a hood/light. That's all I need, right?

The sponge that came with my mag18 was waaay to big so I cut it in half, bought a 10 gallon starter kit from walmart and that was a quick qt for me.. I keep the other half of the sponge floating around in my sump until needed..

That aquaclear will work out just fine... If you add any media, I would just add carbon and ammonia remover. When people (like me) talk about leaving filters in their tanks, they are usually the media pads for the filter. It does not have to be a sponge. So if your case, I would leave the carbon pad in your sump until you need it. (I would not do that for the ammonia pad because you are going to need it to be full strength in your QT.) A heater, PVC, light and POWERHEAD are all that is needed.

It would nice for it to be able to move the waste into the filter, not just rotting on the bottom. Plus it is good for oxygen exchange.

Rats...beat to the punch..yeah a powerhead is great for gas exchange..I was told that if I ever balls up and buy an Achilles that lots of flow in QT would be good for them and increase chance of it eating

I seem to remember that there is some question to the usefulness of aquaclear type ammonia remover in salt water. ( they dont work in Salt water)

Id do the sponge in your filter thing, sponges work great for arobic bacteria. Yes just transfer it from your sump to your filter

<span style="color: black;">But you really want something disposible because you do not want to ever move it from your QT to you sump again.</span>
