it seems like so many people use them, but is there a better option?? I find myself cleaning these about 3 times per week and it's quite the burden especially because I can never particularly get them 100% clean. it makes me feel as if I'm just sticking a phosphate and nitrate factory into my tank when they aren't completely clean which is very hard to do. I can tell they're very efficient at filtering waste out on my 120 and then what they miss my skimmer picks up, but there has to be a better way than this?? anybody use something different?

They're the easiest and quickest way of filtering out particulate matter. What micron sock are you using?

After rinsing the socks, I soak them in bleach/water for a while, then rinse and let dry. Gets them as clean as new. I also have a 120G and use the 7" filter socks.

I run mine through the washing machine without soap, only bleach. Air dry for several days and a quick rinse in prime
