Filter VS Skimmer???

what are the MAJOR improvements of getting a protein skimmer! Im DEF GETTIN ONE THIS WEEKEND! just wondering what yall's experiences were. THANKS

Major-it gets the crap out of the water. If you get a good skimmer, you will have a lot of poop in the collection cup.

fyi, the fish aren't the only ones pooping in your tank. All of the microlife in the LR and sand does a lot of pooping too.

SO for around $100 could I get a skimmer that would be suitable for my 46 gallon?

$100 buy a good used one. All you can get for $100 New is probably a Prizm which I equate to buying a $100 brick. They would probably skim the same. Do you have a sump setup on this tank? If not your best bet would be a used Remora Pro HOB or something.

My suggestion is to get the Euro Reef RS-80 Protein Skimmer from MUFRET.

If you want to save some money, skip the skimmer on a sub 50g tank and do water changes. If you don't want to do the changes, buy a quality skimmer like the ER above. Buying a cheap skimmer won't really help the cause much.
