I'm thinking its a Gorilla Crab. He's about 2.5 - 3.0 inches tip to tip. I didn't notice any damage to coral or missing fish but still thought it was best to remove him. He's had to been in my tank for over 3 years now. Anybody want him?

Nice catch! Not sure if it's reef safe, but I'd take him to the nearest LFS and through him in a tank with some large predator fish:)

Looks kind of like an emerald to me. Occasionally they are black (or even red.)

It might have been there 3 years, but if/when they get big enough, they develop a destructive appetite.

I've discovered hitchhikers years after the last rock/corals went in. They were probably too small to do any damage when they rode in, but after a while the appetite grows along with them and they become troublesome.

Gonna sump it?

Jenn

It's hard to tell because of the similarities between the Emerald and Gorilla. Either way, he's enjoying life in my sump now.
