i went to cappucino bay today i drove about 50 miles . they had great prices and a wonderful selection of goods. i was greeted by a friendly staff, but the employees followed me everywhere i went in the store.i don't like being treated like a potential thief even though they don't know me. i found the whole experience intimidating. they should install camera's instead of following people around. spent about 50.00 but would have spent much more but my wife said lets go.has anybody else have this happen to them in this store?

I Bought 170 Dollar Mag Drive Pump From Them And I Got The Same Feeling Also.i Dont Think It Was Them Thinking We Are Theives But Them Making Sure We Had Their Attention.

It was briefly talked about on here before, some feel they are being overly security minded, others feel it may be a way of offering on the spot help in case questions need answering.

But you should not feel singled out, they tend to make themselves readily available for everyone

Yeah, it's more of a service thing than a theft thing. Also, if you're the type of shopper who likes to browse by yourself, it wouldn't hurt to speak up and say "I'm just looking around and I'll find you when I need help with something." That in itself probably would have resolved a lot of issues from the get-go.

I was there about a week ago looking for a tank and stand..They didn't bother me...I made my way around the store 2-3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything..

Its kinda like we are screwed if we do and screwed if we don't. Our employees will kinda just hang out around or near a customer especially if we are not that busy. They are there to help not to watch you. We don't think anyone is "stealing" we are just trying to be helpful. Maybe you should just have said you would ask for help if you need it or you didn't need any help at all. Or if you had a problem with this you should have mentioned it to someone here (Deborah or Bobby)instead of running to the board to voice your complaint........This is just my preference, but i like the attention when I go into a store. This way i can have any and all questions answered quickly....Ever been to Home Depot and need a question answered and just can't find an employee. Well at least that doesn't happen at Cap Bay. Man, i really hate shopping at Home Depot:)

Just got back today and besides the aptasia found that it is probably one of the clenest and nicest surroundings in the reef world, god help your electric bill and i gave u my word that i was a member CAPP BAY! I found the following around if u will to be very help ful anytime we had a question we didn't have to walk around the store thirty times just to find it

You know what, i REALLY LIKE IT WHEN SOMEONE FOLLOW ME AROUND in CAPBAY. IT is one of the best places to ask question, and other stores don't give you that kinda one on one thing, i always get mad when there is no one following me around. I love the attention, and i do have alot of question to ask, great for them to be there and help me.

Why would they worry that you snatch something out the water? How often does that really happen?

Keep up the good work.

You know, I wondered the same thing - UNTIL I was in Aquarium Design (bham), they kept (past tense) frags in a separate area in the back of the store. I witnessed an employee giving a customer (with WET hands) a good going over, he said he could not see a particular frag so he picked it up to look closer, he then got an attitude and left the store.

I thought that was very odd because it would insult me if someone just randomely put their hand in my tank, thinking of contamination.

I guess I had an even dumber than usual look because the employee came over and explained that the guy was a regular long time customer, who had virtually stopped spending money in the store, but lately, would always find the need for a hands on look at corals when alone ?????? REMARKABLE !!

I was a bit apprehensive on CBA being so available at first, but it is probably better for all that they are so willing to assist. When I go there I will tell em I am just looking and will holler when I need help, that works. I like to make the first three trips around the corals alone, then I normally have about thirty questions.

paul692 - dont cut off your options of shopping, CBA is one of the best store's in the South, and the fact that they care enough to respond here on the board says a lot

The fellow said he was a bit intimidated which probably meant he wasn't comfortable telling someone to stop following him or to discuss it with a manager. I think the forums are an acceptable place to ponder store experiences especially when you think store employees might be following you around. I would also add I think his experience was overall positive and with other members explaining the employee following thing, he probably won't think twice about it next time he is in the store.

I guess its all a matter of perspective or just variable customer service since the guy from the following thread thought cap bay didn't give him enough attention:

True enough. I just don't like people telling other people not to post experiences here. I get why CapBay did not like his conclusion, but I don't think anything is wrong with it especially since it got corrected quickly by several people.
