Tuesday night I lost my Melanurus Wrasse. Sunday night he was swimming around normally, seeming healthy. Monday there was no sign of him, and Tuesday, none either. Until Tuesday night, my wife and I were watching a movie and I happened to glance over at the tank at just the right moment. I saw the wrasse shoot up from out of the sand, straight for the top of the tank. He would have jumped out, except he ran right into the euro-bracing that goes around the edge of the tank. After that he was floating around, attempting (unsuccessfully) to swim, usually ending up on the bottom upside down. I moved him to the refugium, but less than an hour later, he had jumped into the skimmer section and was dead on the bottom.

I PMed Mysterybox about this and he thought it could be an internal parasite, and suggested treating new wrasses with prazi-pro before introducing them to the system. I think I'll add that to my routine.

Everything else seems to be OK, but then again, so did the wrasse before he was missing for two days.

"prazi-pro"? I appreciate that. I've been locking at wrasses. Just out of curiosity, what did you think about that fish? Oh, and how's the candy striped shrimp? I've been wondering about one of those for my tangora.

I really liked him. Before he died, I was looking at my fish list and thinking I wouldn't have enough room for the angel fish. Then last night, I thought for a second that I could get it now, but immediately decided I want to replace the wrasse. He was very active, took care of pests, and the colors are just amazing.

If you get a pistol shrimp, I would suggest having one paired with a goby. In my experience, if they aren't sharing a burrow with a goby, then they tend to roam and make tunnels all over your tank, which can cause issues if you have corals on the sandbed.
