fish in overflow

I have one small coral goby (< 1 inch) which ended up in my overflow :wow2: , it used to be in my DT always used to swim at the bottom of the tank, over low is deep and very think for me to catch him by net or try other bottle method, how do i get him out of there :confused2:

Removed the drain piping from the bottom of the bulk head, then put a bucket and net under it.

Then pull the overflow pipe, water drains through net with fish and done.

Or if its a small fish, siphon him out.

cant remove the drain pipe as it is fitted tight.

&lt;--- siphoning wont hurt the fish ?

I have got three of mine stuck in the overflow. Two I got to go in my sump by full siphon and one I was able to just grab out of the over flow box. The fish should be fine as long as they dont get stuck.

You can get some filter material and stick it down one side and under him and keep stuffing to make him move up until you catch him . Just do this slowly and be careful not to cover
him/ her up .

Used that in the past and it worked like a charm. Hardest part was getting the filter floss out when I was done. LOL

I had the same issue, my fairy wrasse jump into the overflow and I had know idea how to get out so I would drop a little food in there for him when I feed. 2 months or so later I saw him swimming around in the DT in jumped back in on his own lol...

Someone mentioned to me that many people put something on top of the overflow to prevent this. Does anyone know what it is? I have a peppermint shrimp that took a long ride to the sump, I'm actually surprised he made it.

My clown did this (very small clown) in the third chamber of an 8g biocube. All I could do was stick a bent net down in, wait for him tO go above it and slwly raise. Once I got him to the top I just scooped him out with my hand

Any type of screen would work, but make sure you angle it. I laid some on one of mine flat. Fish jumped onto it and cooked.... If you angle it but to the tank they will roll back into the tank.

Not sure on the size of the tank but a fish net bent (pushed together so that it is narrower) and a yard stick works great. Attach the net to the yard stick through the handle then tape it. You may need something else (piece of tubing or whatever) to get it (fish) to come out from behind the plumbing but it will work if u are patient. As far as covering the box put a piece of eggcrate over the top of it. Just angle it like Nick G suggested. Good luck!
