Fish Proofing the Overflow

When i plumbed the tank I used what was intended as the return hole and set it up as a Bean Animal and made the return external. I know have this gap I need to block. I was thinking of using magnets, but not sure I trust them to be water proof.any thoughts?

I used eggcrate, clipped it to size, and hot glued a little screen netting to prevent smaller fish and inverts from getting in.

That is my exact method as well - works well

I use a piece of vinyl tubing cut an inch longer on both sides then cut a slit thru on side the bridge the gap kinda like an upside down hot dog bun. Way easier than egg crate takes less than 2 minutes

I usually use scraps of tubing from old return plumbing. I got a bunch of it for free if you make it to lithonia

Same but I used super glue.
