is having your tank and stand setup on carpet okay? maybe with a thin sheet of styrofoam under the tank? the stand will be here by the end of the week so all opinions and experience would be greatly appreciated.. thanks..

what size tank are you talking about? I would think a small nano might have a problem getting level because there's not as much weight, but I had two 75 gals set up in the same room on carpet and never had any trouble.

You will be fine without the foam. Just make sure it is level and shim it as needed. You may want to pull it out some from the shoe molding so it doesn't sit directly on the carpet tack strip.

We are in the process of setting up a new tank and decided to put foam under the stand to protect the new tile that we installed - sounded like a good idea. Unfortunately when we went to shim the stand to make it level the foam just compressed under the shims. Made it take hours and a lot in ingenuity on my poor husbands part to finally get it level!

thanks guys.. and girls.. hah it is a 55g tank and from experience from ya'll i am more confident now.. thanks i cant wait for it to arrive.. then all i need is sand and water to start my cycle!

I have my 30g in my bedroom on carpet. The only thing I worry about is when I take my hands out of the tank the water drips of onto the carpe well I'm getting a towel.

What kind of tank are you getting? Did you buy an entire startup system? Not that it would help much but I have a 10# bag of live sand you are welcome to. I would return it to where I bought it but its just not worth it. Not only that but the shelf life is until Jan 09. But again you are welcome to it if you would like. I am in L'ville as well.
