Ok, so I've been reading A LOT lately, trying to find an alternative approach to eradicating flatworms (Convulutriloba retrogemma a.k.a red acoel flatworm). I came across some really interesting natural predators.

Hoeven's Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus)- Delbeek and Sprung claim that only per tank one is required! They found it to be very effective in a 5500g reef and an 800g seagrass exhibit.

Blue Velvet Nudibranch (Chelidonura varians)- This Nudi is shaped like a flatworm and will eat them at a rate of 100/hour! They are quite short-lived however, but still a worthy tool to consider.

Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris)- Great looking but difficult species to keep. Will also eat flatworms.

Spotted Mandarin (Synchiropus picturatus)- These guys have been known to eat flatworms. Although, from what I have read, they can be somewhat hit or miss.

I will post more as I find more info.

Hey man. You're welcome to run a test on 6-lines eating them. I have that 40 breeder with flatworms in it. I could put one in there an see if it works. If it does, you can just catch him and put him in your tank. I'm taking it down just after the first of the year anyway. If he doesn't, then I'll just put him in the 55 with the two maroons. He whould be able to handle them.

Jamie, that may be a good idea. I would need to fatten him up before he goed into my system anyway..the bird wrasse is a mean one!

I've seen Sixlines keep the population in check, but never fully eradicate them. But I would be happy with that result. I've had them be hit and miss at it, too.

IME, Six lines do a good job on flatworms and bristle worms too. Leopard wrasses are pretty tough to get established but at beautiful additions if you can get them to eat...

i have a problem with flatworms as well. i have heard both good and bad stories about the flatworm exit but i remain skeptical. maybe ill get a six line wrasse...
let me know if yall have any advice or figure out a good way to eradicate them
