Has anyone tried cutting up floor tiles to grow zoas on? If so how did it go and what tiles did you use? It seems like they would spread easier and be easy to cut off with a razor blade? Any ideas?

I'm not sure if you seen this thread. I'll post it here: http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77902&highlight=homedepot">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77902&highlight=homedepot</a>

i havent used them for zoas but i have for povona coral and it grew very well. i dont remember the brand of the tile but it was a simple 6x6 white floor tile. i dont think there were any coatings or anything like that on it.

Where did you purchase it from?

i got it from lowes. look in the tile section i think they were in a box for individual sale along with others

Been using tavertine ( darn spell check changes to tavern time ;-) for a while and have mixed feelings. I like them because they are solid and heavy so they don't slide or tip over for taller when they are in a tank with no sand. I dislike them because they are heavy so it's harder to glue to rock. Also because they are square so it catches your eye and looks unnatural.

One time I thought it would be cool getting a couple of different types of GSP ( like bright green and blue green) and make a mosaic to the floor of the tank.
If anybody wants to try it let me know, I have a couple of square ft left over, also most home stores will heavily discount the packages that are damaged or broken.

My father in law has some spare porcelain tiles. I grinded them on the cement to make them rough. I now have them in the back of the toilet in case they leach. I'm going to try them for a bit.
