I was beginning to get frustrated with the performance of the maxijet 1200 that came on my remora C skimmer, after 11 months of use, skimming continually slowed down to a standstill for no reason that i could see and it did not matter how i adjusted it, cleaned it, etc. So on a whim I picked up a ecoplus pump from tim at Keen Reef that throws 396gph compared to the 297 of the maxijet.

After a break in period of a day the skimmer is now foaming like a rabid dog. We will see how it keeps up.

(For Solana owners, this pump needs a quarter inch taken off the bottom flare where the suction cups are and remove the cover that holds on the mesh intake screen. Mesh will still stay over intake if you want to use it) and then it slides right into the back left section where your overflow is.

Don't forget to clean the injector every couple of weeks....that's vital to have this skimmer work properly.

I do, i completely remove the skimmer, clean it, the riser, the cup and remove the screw over the injector and put a pipe cleaner down it. I also tear apart the pump and clean the scum from the magnet. I don't know if the pump was wearing out or not, but even new, it never made the kind of foam i am seeing now.

I am also getting ready to drop a tunze nanostream into the tank to replace a Koralia one, depending on how the tank adjusts to the flow I may pull both koralias and get a second nano.

Ok cool. Yeah they are finiky at times. But a great skimmer once working. I know they sell them with MAG3's too...so the pump you got for it puts it right around there...hope it keeps up well for ya.

Sounds like too much cleaning to me. Just clean out the injector, and the cup. Leave the rest alone, or your skimmer will be "breaking in" all the time:thumbs:

For reference I have a remora, and an urchin, always thought they sucked, but they consistantly suck...:lol2:

:doh:Cleaning of the skimmer body was after 2 or 3 pump cleanings and actually the manufacturer recommended cleaning the riser throat if skimmate collection slowed. I do not think this will be an issue anymore with the new pump, since I can now keep the skimmer cup at its highest setting and still collect a great deal of skimmate. The old pump I had to keep the cup at its lowest to a quarter elevated and was only getting about a cup per week.

I will measure tonight for you. By the way, the nice thing about the pump is I think it was only about $20.00-$25.00 from Tim.

The area I have it in is 3" wide by about 6" long.
