So, the last few months I have been working about 18 hours a day, 6 days a week. I was doing pretty much the bare minimum to keep the tank going. Sing by the house in the middle of the day, throw some food in, and back to work. Get home at 1 AM, top off the water, go to bed. Water change saturday mornings, then back to work. I ended up missing a water change, so the next weekend, I got home late that friday and decided to go ahead and do one. I drained 50 gallons, and then added new water. Sunday, I went to feed the fish and top off the tank, and my tub of RODI that I had just made, was EMPTY... and my tub of salt water was still full. I did a 25% water change with fresh water!!! I keep my tank at 1.026, and it was way down. Most corals are are still doing fine (2 weeks later) with exception to the pink carnation (which is pretty much toast), my welso is shrunk up pretty bad, and about 1/4 of one of my hammer corals (the wall type) is looking grim. Hard work may pay off, but the side-effects of hard work can surely take their toll.

Ouch... reminds me of the old Dunkin D commercial "It's time to make the doughnuts"

Did you check your SG after dumping 50 gallons of fresh water in your system?
I had a similar situation when the drain pipe came loose and between my top off system and my wife adding fresh water in the sump my tank fell to 1.018 for a few hours. Fortunately I had 35 gallons of mix and was able to get it back to .021 with a water change and gradually brought it back up over the next week or so

Well, at least you didn't do like the n00bs on RC tend to do. I swear, every week there is a post similar to the above which ends with "so I dumped 3lbs of salt in the tank to raise the salinity".. LOL

Wait you mean I can't do that?

You should invest in one of these with some of that OT money..

<> Hello, police department.
<>Yes, this is Bob. I need the swat team to come out to my neighbor's house. I just heard a very loud, blood curdling sound coming from his house. Wait.. I see him running around yelling like a mad man with a bunch of water buckets. I think he may have mad cow disease, can you send the CDC?

I am surprised the police have never shown up! Water changes at 2 AM are a bad idea. My SG did drop way down, but 24 hours had passed before I noticed what I had done. I brought it back up slowly, figured the damage had been done once, no need to stress everything out again. I do have a question though. My wall hammer coral has some damage. About 1/4 of it has had no polyps for about 2 weeks. Will new ones grow into the old, or should I just cut the dead part off?

Edit: I need one of those genesis systems. Too bad I can't just pay myself overtime!!!
