I am looking for a last fish to add to my 90g and have been looking into either a Foxface or Rabbitfish and wanted to see if anyone had any feedback on keeping them?

I currently have a pair of B&W Clowns, Mystery Wrasse, 4 Lyretail Anthias, and 3 Borbonius Anthias, so I know I am reaching max on my bioload.

I have read that both of these fish pick at algea, but have heard they can go after LPS if not feed properly. I am not worried about underfeeding because I feed heavily due to all of my Anthias. Are there any other behavioral issues I need to know about?

Thanks for any help and advice.

I have kept a few different ones over the years, Lo Foxface, Orange spot Rabbit and currently a Magnificent Foxface.

Mine have always been docile and not picked at anyone or anything. I know that sometimes either of these can irritate coral if they decide to pick at algae close to say LPS polyps. Some claim that they will actually eat the polyps, I haven't witnessed that though.

My Magnificent swims next to my Naso most of the time, no aggression between them and they're the "big boys" (both 5"+) of the tank. My male Pylei wrasse will actually run him off at times and he doesn't engage in the fight at all. Tim Smith used to have a Magnificent that was huge (7-8") and it and a Purple Tang would get into it every now and again. But it was always the tang that started the argument and the foxface that ended it, lol.

I also have a 90gal and I just added a Lo Foxface and everything seems fine. My Kole Tang showed a little dominance for the first day. Once the Kole found the dorsal fins of the Foxface things started settling down.:fish:

They are great pets Fox face have temper issues sum time wen they are first added but calm down after a day or 2. They have personally like grouper or a dog verry easy to train to do tricks ( one of mine puts his head out of the water wen he wonts a treat).
I haven't had a issue with tank jumping or lps niping just keep them fed well. they do not like trigger fish though my scribled killed a Niger I added and beat a red tail in to a corner that it did not move from but has not had a issue with other fish
they are venomous there spines are like needles and inject a very potent venom takes a wile to clot hurts like a mother f!@#$% only had 2 hits in 5 years my fault both times handle with care and work in the tank often so they git use to you then they will keap there fins back wen your in THERE tank all
ways back down wen they git mad
They also shed you will see them do it from time to time nothing to git alarmed about
They are great pets my tank list is foxface rabit scribled rabit sanjis rabit 6 finger dragonites 2 flameangles 8 layertail anthias 2tailspot blenies 2 watchmen 2mides blenies 2candie basslets 2 assiors 1lawnmower 2 chamelion tile fish and have no issues with my rabits

I added a Foxface to my tank two weeks ago and so far he has been doing well. He does eat the hair algae and as far as I can tell he is leaving the corals alone. I never see my purple firefish anymore and I was starting to think he had died. Finally a day or two ago i saw him out during feeding time. Hope he doesnt have to hide for the rest of his life but he seems afraid of the foxface.

Thanks for the all feed back everyone. Now I just need to decide between a foxface and a rabbittfish. I am torn between the Two Barred Rabittfish and the Magnificent Foxface.

As far as mine go the foxface eats more alge and the scribled are more like a puppy in a fish tank (find one that is silver throughout its back ones that stay yellow can have temper issues)

I ended up picking up a really nice Magnificent Foxface this afternoon. I am acclimating him right now, but hopefully will get a few pics of him over the next few days after he settles in.

Thanks again for all the advice and help.

Great choice IMO!

We absolutely love ours, always out swimming and very eager to beg for a snack when you walk past the tank.

Enjoy your new addition!
