I have an acro in my tank that is growing pretty quick, I would like to frag a portion of it and place it somewhere else in the tank. Is this normal to do, take a frag of a coral and place it somewhere else in the tank? This will be my first time fragging anything, but I figure it will be an easy way to fill the tank up more.

Yeah that's what I am hesitant on, I may just leave it and let it grow out a bit. I have a 90 gallon tank, started out with some softies like a good size bright green finger leather, Ricordea's, zoa's, pulsing xenia etc. I started adding some monti's, chalices, acros, and they are really taking off to my surprise. I plan on sticking to more of a variety of different color SPS going forward.
