Both of my Galaxia's are turning whit and dying starting at the base. Its been slowly spreading for a couple months now. Anyone know what is going on and how to cure it or prevent it from spreading to other corals?

Is your kh and caclium good? I don't know of anything that can kill galaxia.

My Ca has been fine but Kh has been low for a while and I started to dose a month ago but have still not maintained an optimum range. I'm in the process of switching to Red Sea Coral pro ( 1 - 20% water change two weeks ago and I'm going to do another today ). I intend on checking my parameters today and adjusting my dosing regiment as needed. Hopefully once I get my calcium and kh in check the dye off will halt.

Reef Fusion 2 part, 1 cap full a day of each. It's a 75 gallon aquarium. I've stopped dosing to see how the change in salt affects my parameters and then I'll adjust if needed. My Kh struggles to climb above 7 dkH, most of the time 5-6. I've even suplementally added Reef Builder at 3 tsp a day and still didn't climb above 8. I've decided to see how the new salt fairs. I haven't tested since my last water change. I'll test before this weekends water change and then again mid next week to see if I need to start dosing again. If this continues I'll need to get auto-dosing setup.

Are you using GFO?
What is your Po4?
Do you feed it?
Hows the flow?

Mine started to do that same type of thing when I first introduced GFO. We need a full set of water parameters please.

Very interested to see what becomes of this. I've personally been using Red Sea Coral Pro for about the last 8 months. My only complaint is the same, sort of lower than ideal ph at 8 exact all the time, and a kh that I cannot get above 8 without drastic waterchanges (usually 7 kh). On a 75+25 with alot of sand and LR I usually do about 10-15 gallons a week, recently changed from phosguard to GFO (4 days ago), and running a coralife 125 skimmer. Have been wondering if its just the salt mix, after reading in other forums peoples same complaints. I have kalk but I havent dosed it yet despite being able to test for safe params.

This has been gradual over months. My primary salt has been salinity. Switching to rscp now to see its affect. My po4 has always been low although I recently added a reactor with seachem carbon and phosgard mix to help with algae and clarity.

This could be related to lack of light since the dye off is on the bottom and these guys are on the sandband. Not for sure.

I have slow growth pretty much across the board with exception to a poker monti which is taking over a large rock it was sitting on. It is also at the too of the tank.

I have 6 t5 lights and run them nearly 8 hours a day. The bulbs are less than 9 months old.

Same sort of deal going on with mine actually, I had the GHA so i figured phosphate or new tank, so i decided to do phosphate remover + carbon. I run 6 T5s also but the bulbs were at least 9 months old, changed 3 out a few days ago for geisemanns and I am switching the other 3 on friday. We will see how it goes. The amount of algae im getting at the moment is very easily manageable.

Edit: I run mine:

2 Bulbs (Purple and 1 Blue)
12:30 to 10:30

4 Other Bulbs
1:00 - 9:00

Staggered

One of my bulbs failed and I switched it out with a Geisemann. I'm impresses with the richness id the blue versus the standard bulb shipped with my Aquaticlife.

My galaxia thrived in high light, moderate flow. Parameters were in normal ranges. Sometimes on the high side. Good luck. Hopefully you find your problem.

They seem to do well with exception to the spot on the bottom that is dying off. That is why my first thought was some fungus or other disease. It certainly seems to be spreading albeit at a very slow rate. Both if mind have similar spots and they are both on the under side.

One of the two is actually on the sandbed and beneath a rock and is mostly shaded but still seems to do fair.

"Crap" photo.
