Getting a clam to move (on it's own)

Is it possible to make a clam pick up it's foot and move on it's own?

The reason I'm asking is that I've got a clam that has been sitting in the same spot for 7 months and I'm considering removing all of my LR and bleaching the bjeepers out of it.

The clam is my biggest concern. All of the coral, other than the GSP, I can pull out and treat separately.

I do not want to risk harming the clam if possible. If I can convince him to pick up (his foot) and move, that would be best.

Good question. For a good answer might need to wait for someone who has a good bit more experience with this but my understanding is as follows:

No. There isn't any good way to get the clam to let go. Damaging the foot can be lethal. As a last resort, lift the clam up a little bit and gently cut each byssal thread with a clean scalpel or razor as close to the point of attachment as possible.

Yeah, I know that damage to the foot can be lethal. I that was my concern when I bought it and it was surgically removed from it's rock.

Apparently, the surgery was a success. It's been surviving VERY well in it's new home for the last 7 months. I gave him a very, very gentle tug this morning. He's VERY well anchored in. If there's someway of getting him to lift his foot, that would be best.

He seems to like to rotate from time to time. When I sat him on the rock, he was facing a little to the right. A couple of months later, he was facing a little to the left. He's back to facing to the right now.

Other than the rotation, he's never really moved.

I'd love to be able to take him off the rock, treat the rock and put him back. I just do not want to harm him in the process.

I've always had luck moving clams, but I never have them long term like yours. Best bet would be to chisel off a chunk of rock with his foot on it, then you can move him wherever, whenever.

put them in a pile of rubble rock, then they will attach to a small piece and you can move him wherever you want
