Is the BRS high capacity gfo worth the extra cash??

I am about to order some more GFO and I don't know which to get.

To me it's not. I just run the regular BRS GFO and change it bi-weekly when I change my tank.

The only real difference that I have been able to see is that the regular GFO is a little 'dusty'. I run a dual reactor, so it doesn't affect me. The dust is picked up by the carbon canister. I have a friend that runs single reactors and on his system and the regular GFO put a rust-colored 'dusting' on everything in his system. Even after rinsing.

The high capacity gfo is better used in an under sized reactor. Let's say your system calls for 4 cups of normal gfo, but your reactor only holds 3. Well, you can get away with 2 cups of the high capacity.

If your reactor can handle the load in normal gfo, that is what I would go with...

Biopellets you say. Hmmmm that is an option to look into.

There are down sides to biopellets, as there are down sides to gfo.

The same down sides associated with vodka are associated with bio pellets. It's a carbon source that feed ANY bacteria. If you get stn or rtn, the carbon accelerates the bacteria. If you have cyano, the carbon feeds it. It take about a month and a half to see results. A good skimmer is required. Top off every 4-8 months.

The down sides to gfo are: messy, expensive to frequently replace, it can be too aggressive and strip too many nutrients out. If you don't rinse well, you'll have a red tank. Conpeltely Exhausts within 2-4 weeks, but is most effective in the first 24 hrs

What reactor? The seas systems are great for biopellets and I can help you make a funnel mod.

Probably the brs biopellet reactor. With a stronger pump than a maxi1200. Maybe a mag 3. Or I do have a little fishies 150 I could order the pellet plates for.
I know there is a group buy on the sea systems. Dunno if I can make the meeting though.

I think they are trying to figure something out for people who can't be there. If they let me, I don't mind shipping then to people at the buyer's expense.
