I am finally finished with my degree (12 year plan.....Oh Yeah) and am wanting to step my tank up a little bit. I was planning on hooking my Calcium Reactor up (korallin 3002) soon but am having second thoughts now. Up till now I have just done water changes for nutrient export and renewal of trace elements. I DO NOT want to test and have to supplement with anything other than a calcium reactor. I am home most of the time but do travel from home sometimes up to a week at a time. I don't want to have to ask my wife to do anything other than feed while I'm gone.

I am actually thinking about just increasing my water changes (both frequency and amount) instead of hooking up the calcium reactor. I have predominately SPS now but will be adding LPS and zoas soon for an eventual breakup of 40% SPS, 40% LPS, and 20% zoas.

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this idea. I have heard that adding a calcium reactor can lower certain things. I'm trying to dumb this up a little bit and make it as crash proof as I can.

I appreciate any input for or against this thinking........

Sorry I don't have any advice for you as I am pretty new to all this but.....Congratulations on the degree. Bet that makes you very happy. Sticking with it like that is something to be commended and my hat is off to you. :-)

Thanks! It has been very difficult to do having a family and career but it was well worth it. Wasn't so hard actually doing the work but getting motivated to sit down and just do it. Glad it is behind me!

Tyson, I honestly don't think the corals you have right now suck up a ton of Ca and Mg that can't be easily replenished with regular WC. But, if you plan on definitely using it one day, why not get it dialed in and working while the tank isn't crammed with large, hard to replace colonies? I made some mistakes along the way and wish some of them wouldn't have happened with so many things in the tank.

I guess I'm scared of what it might lower... Maybe mag. The problem is that I just don't really know much about them. This is probably why I am so hesitant to hook it up. I just don't want to have to dose......Seth, maybe you can come help me do this and help me getting it dialed in

Tyson you change your mind like the wind....lol :D

It should be basically set it up and forget it since you have controller to monitor it. All in all though just giving you a hard time!
