Ok, we had a Diamond Goby commit carpet suicide last week. We had only had him for about a month. Wife was sad... blah blah blah.

This weekend we bought 2 Tiger Gobies and had one commit suicide the first night. The 2nd night (last night) I put a towel over the existing egg crate. This morning the 2nd Tiger Goby is bounching at the top of the water which looks like he is trying to jump. Both the jumps have been after dark and we checked on him after dark last night and the goby was in a hole under a rock all by himself. Apparently according to the wife, he's now calmed down a bit and is sitting at the bottom.

Not sure what can be done to reduce what apparently is a stressed goby. I don't see anyone bothering him as the other residents could care less. He's in a 90 gallon with plenty of rock, sand and other hiding places. This current goby hasn't been a major digger yet, but the last one dug all kinds of holes and caves and was always active... hence why the wife liked him so much.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

What's the tank dimensions? I ordered a 7x7' sheet of 1/4 fish netting for screen covers I might have enough left to cover your tank if your interested, should be here Wednesday and let me make mine and HawkFishes and ill see how much material I have left, he was having the same issue with fish still being to jump through the eggcrate.

Its a 90 so its two openings 22.25 x 16.5. Let me know if you have enough left

Should have plenty then but ill lay it out and double check tonight, it won't help them be less stressed but it should prevent any more carpet surfing, hopefully he'll settle down on his own.

Yeah I'm hoping he does... but the first one never showed signs of stress until it was all over.

I lost two in my 30 cube. One with no top and then one got out in a 1 inch gap. I now have a 90 with screen tops and no problems so far.

I figured with eggcrate over the entire top I'd be ok... but apparently not

Yes even with 3/4"-1" gaps in it some smaller fish can still manage to get trough, and I know it sucks cause you even planned ahead for it and they still managed to make it out, I just did the math and should be able to make 3-4 more medium sized screens or 1 or 2 larger ones, I can give you the netting material or make the screens for you, I think materials wouldn't be more than $15-20 for yours, Ill be making 3 already this weekend so it's no problem to do a few more

Where did you order the netting from? I have a glass canopy and it is blocking my shimmer for my lights.

BRS was the cheapest I could find, checked a few places locally and couldn't find what I wanted, they have kits for screen tops as well but it's cheaper to buy the frame corners and spline at Home Depot, and just add it into your next BRS order as shipping adds quite a bit per sqft

Thanks, I'll let you know on this. I moved the Goby to a bio cube that's covered and he seems to be doing much better.
