Was in my LFS yesterday and saw a beautiful fish which i was told was a Golden Stripe Sweetlips. I was in at a quiet time n the store and only a new member of staff was in and when i asked him about it he politely held his hands up and sorry i honestly have never seen one of them before so i dont know anything about them. (which i thought was pretty nice thing to do).

But now the problem is i cant find anything online about this fish either. Anyone ever owned one or know much about them.

Tank size needed -
Feeding requirements -
Temperment -
Reef safe -
Possible tank mates -
Any no no's about the species -

All advice muchly appreciated.

Sweetlips - not reef safe.

If it's a Plectorhinchus albovittatus (aka Twostriped Sweetlips - it's gold in colour), it gets to 30 cm (11.8"), will eat your inverts.

I wouldn't recommend any Sweetlips for a reef tank nor for any tank under ~100 gallons (~400 liters).

May not be the exact thing but related I believe

+1, they are a major food fish. BIG fish in 2 years!

FWIW-I honestly don't know why the trade sells sweetlips, panther groupers and other game fish as suitable tropical marines to unsuspecting hobbyists? Even Volitans lions usually outgrow their owners tanks. It's pretty sad, really.

Ahh cheers for the link and info guys. Now i see why i couldnt find anything on it as when i saw the large colourless fish i thought i was looking for the wrong thing.

Now i feel sorry for the breed :( after reading the link it seems like it would be like having a Tuna or a Cod in my tank.
