Probably the best place to start is a few good books. I personally like "The New Marine Aquarium" and "Natural Reef Aquariums". Most of the info is perfect except the filtration sections are out of date. You want a skimmer and refugium if possible rather than a wet-dry or canister.
 
I've found The Conscientious Aquarist by Bob Fenner and Reef Invertebrates by Calfo and Fenner to be helpful. I also refer to Marine Invertebrates by Shimek often. I'm still looking for a good book on corals that includes mushrooms and zoas but have had no luck so far.
